About Us!
A look into the faces that make up the SYDE 28 cohort and who built this profile.
About this Profile
Inspired by the many Systems Design Engineering (SYDE) cohorts who came before us, we wanted to create this class profile to capture our experiences from the class of 2028's first semester at Waterloo. Our hope is that this profile will serve as a valuable memento for us to reflect on as we progress through the remaining years of our degree. Additionally, we aim to provide future SYDE students with an insight into what makes this program—and the people in it—unique. As we continue to grow and evolve, we plan to update this profile at the end of our 4B term (if not sooner), so that we can track how our experiences, perspectives, and ambitions have shaped us throughout this journey. So until next time, we'll see you on the other SYDE!
The findings in this profile were derived from the results of a class survey conducted by SYDE '28 students. 61 out of 86 students (71%) of students in our first year class responded to the survey. All questions were optional. The data presented in this class profile may not be a complete reflection of the class and as such, this profile includes the number of respondents for each data set.
About the Program
Systems Design Engineering (SYDE) is an interdisciplinary program at the University of Waterloo that blends engineering with design thinking. This unique approach encourages us to tackle complex problems from a holistic perspective, creating innovative solutions. During our first term, we navigated the challenges of university life, balanced academics with our first co-op search, and adapted to a new city. We've made some new friends, new memories and are excited to see how the rest of our degree goes.
